The 10 most important ziyarat sites in Madinah — Quba Mosque, Uhud, Qiblatain, the Seven Mosques and more. History, timings, dress code and how to visit them in a single half-day.
1. Masjid Quba
The first mosque in Islam, built by the Prophet ﷺ himself. Praying two rakat here carries the reward of an Umrah (Tirmidhi). Located 3.5 km south of Masjid an-Nabawi. Best visited early morning after Fajr. Modest dress required; separate entrances for men and women.
2. Masjid al-Qiblatain
The Mosque of the Two Qiblas — where the direction of prayer was changed from Jerusalem to the Kaaba. 5 km northwest of the Haram. A short 15-minute visit; the mihrab pointing toward Jerusalem is preserved and clearly visible.
3. Jabal Uhud & the graveyard of the martyrs
The site of the Battle of Uhud (3 AH), where 70 companions including Hamza ibn Abd al-Muttalib (RA) were martyred. 5 km north of the city. Visit the graveyard from outside the wall; making du'a for the martyrs is Sunnah.
4. The Seven Mosques (Sab'ah Masajid)
A cluster of small historic mosques near Mount Sala, associated with the Battle of the Trench. Includes Masjid al-Fath, Masjid Salman al-Farsi, and Masjid Ali. A 30-minute cluster visit.
5. Masjid al-Ghamama
Just west of Masjid an-Nabawi. The Prophet ﷺ prayed Eid here and once made rain-prayer here when a cloud appeared to shade him. Short walking-distance visit.
6. Jannat al-Baqi
The main graveyard of Madinah, resting place of thousands of Sahaba including Uthman ibn Affan (RA) and family members of the Prophet ﷺ. Located immediately southeast of Masjid an-Nabawi. Open to men only, typically after Fajr and Asr. Silent du'a; no wailing or elaborate rituals.
7. Wadi al-Jinn (Baida Valley)
About 30 km northwest — the famous 'gravity hill' where cars appear to roll uphill in neutral. Not a religious site, but a memorable stop for families with children on a longer ziyarat day.
8. Date farms on the Al-Ula road
Ajwa, Anbara and Sukkari date farms open to visitors on the way out of the city. Free tasting, fair prices, great gifts for family back home. Best combined with Quba.
9. Masjid al-Jumu'ah
Where the Prophet ﷺ led the first Friday prayer after Hijrah. Small, quiet, historically significant — often skipped by rushed tours but well worth a 10-minute stop.
10. Masjid al-Ijabah
Small mosque where a du'a of the Prophet ﷺ was answered. Modest, historic, and calm — a fitting end to a ziyarat day before returning to Masjid an-Nabawi for Maghrib.
How to visit them all in one half-day
Book a private car with a driver familiar with ziyarat. Typical order (after Fajr): Quba → date farms → Qiblatain → Seven Mosques → Uhud → back to Haram by Zuhr. Half-day ziyarat tours start from around SAR 200 in a sedan and SAR 300 in an SUV.
Etiquette and dress code
Cover shoulders and knees (both men and women). Women wear an abaya. Speak softly at graveyards; du'a is between you and Allah — no touching walls or grilles. Carry water (Madinah is hot) and pray each site's two-rakat greeting where possible.
