Ziyarat Guide — Makkah & Madinah
A pilgrim's map of the most important historic sites in both cities, with typical order, timing and etiquette. Best done with a private driver over one half-day per city.
Makkah ziyarat
Jabal al-Noor (Cave of Hira)
Where the first revelation came to the Prophet ﷺ. 4 km north of the Haram. Fit pilgrims only for the summit climb (1–2 hours).
Jabal Thawr
The cave where the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr (RA) hid during the Hijrah. South of Makkah. Most pilgrims view from the base.
Arafat, Muzdalifah & Mina
The three Hajj plains. A one-hour drive covers all three, including Masjid Namirah and the Jamarat area.
Masjid Aisha (Taneem)
The nearest miqat for Makkah residents to enter Ihram for a second Umrah. Quick 15-minute stop.
Masjid al-Jinn & Masjid al-Rayah
Two small historic mosques in central Makkah with strong tradition attached.
Madinah ziyarat
Masjid Quba
The first mosque in Islam — two rakat here = reward of an Umrah.
Masjid al-Qiblatain
Where the qibla changed from Jerusalem to the Kaaba.
Jabal Uhud & martyrs' graveyard
The battle site; make du'a for the martyrs from outside the wall.
The Seven Mosques (Sab'ah Masajid)
Cluster near Mount Sala from the Battle of the Trench.
Jannat al-Baqi
The main graveyard next to Masjid an-Nabawi — men only, silent du'a.
Date farms & Wadi al-Jinn
Ajwa dates on the Al-Ula road; the famous 'gravity hill' 30 km out for families.
Etiquette
- • Cover shoulders and knees; women wear an abaya.
- • Silent du'a at graveyards — no touching walls or grilles.
- • Pray two rakat where possible, especially at Masjid Quba.
- • Carry water; Madinah and Makkah are hot most of the year.
- • Give small tips to helpers at rural sites.
- • Photograph respectfully; no photos inside mosques during prayer.
